===
[00:00:00] Welcome to Functional Medicine with Dr. Var. This podcast is to help you explore the underlying root causes of your chronic symptoms and health challenges. Reset your health and reclaim your life.
VARSHA: There is a concept that has emerged over the years called Inflammaging, and this is where you have chronic inflammation that is actually aging your body faster than it should.
It's not just a physical look of aging, but it is also in how you're functioning and how you're feeling, and how sharp your mind is.
Symptoms of inflammation can be fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, weight gain, especially around the middle. decreased stamina in your muscles and decreased strength.
You may notice it takes you longer to recover from workouts. You also might notice some skin changes
and even some joint [00:01:00] stiffness.
This matters because chronic inflammation over time can lead to cognitive disorders, heart disease,
insulin resistance, and diabetes, weight gain, I
and even autoimmune disease, and much more. So if you wanna live your optimal life, you have to reduce the inflammation that's brewing in your body. So today's daily challenge is one simple tip that will just start the process of you eliminating. Things that might be causing inflammation, and that is to pay attention to some of the fats in your diet, especially the cooking oils.
You know, back in the day we were taught that canola oil and even there was a point in time vegetable oil was thought to be better. But really those can be inflammatory. So you wanna avoid vegetable oil, canola oil, soybean oil, peanut oil. Pretty much any of the seed oils. There's too long of a list to really mention, it's [00:02:00] actually easier to remember the good oils.
And those are things like avocado oil, olive oil,
and some people can do well with sesame oil, ghee, or organic extra virgin coconut oil.
So my challenge is , if you're using any of these unhealthy oils, is to swap out the unhealthy oil for either olive oil or avocado oil. And it's best to buy oils that are in a dark glass container because then you know that they are fresh and they have antioxidants.
So swap out your oil today and. you'll be well on your way to reducing inflammation. And don't forget, some of these inflammatory oils can also be found in processed food. So if you are already cooking with avocado oil or olive oil, then I challenge you to reduce the amount of processed foods that you are eating in your diet by a third.
Thus, if you have three meals a day and they're all processed, then maybe have one meal that has [00:03:00] cleaner foods without these unhealthy oils.
